Multiplying Exponents

We shall start learning multiplying exponents with the same base first. For an example, a2 times a3 knowing both have the same base “a”.  So we are going to multiply exponents with the same base.  Now to do this, remember what and exponent mean.  a2 means a times a. that 2 in the expnts. position means that we multiply a by itself. It is not a times 2 but it is a multiplied twice that is total two factors. And likewise, a3 that is a times a times a. a total of three factors because it is a cubed. That means a2 times a3 is equals to a times a times a times a times a, in other words a multiplied 5 times, hence that has to be a to the 5th power or also written as a5. So in short form when we multiply any expnents having the same base, remember to add the expnts.

How to multiply exponents when there is only one mentioned for multiplication?  For example, y times y4, here y will be considered automatically as y1 , now let us solve our problem. Y1 times y4 equals to y times y times y times y times y . That is y was multiplied 5 times. So it will result into y raise to the power of 5 on in other words, y5. I have recently faced lot of problem while learning Absolute value functions, But thank to online resources of math which helped me to learn myself easily on net.

Multiplying exponents with different bases can also be very interesting to learn. So how do we multiply the expnts. which has different bases. For example 42 times 22 how do we do this? As we see the base here is 4 and 2 so we cannot multiply it directly to get the result, we need to get the same base first so we know that 4 is nothing but 2 times 2 .so simplifying the largest number to get the similar base as another. So here 42 is nothing but 22 times 22 .so now we can solve the question as we have all the same base with their given expnts.  So now we have 42 = 22  22  nothing but 24  also. We already have another base as 22. Let us solve it, 2 times 2 times 2 keeping the same base and now adding the exponents that are 2+2+2 (of each the base) that is 6. Thus our result is 26.
This way the multiplication of expnts. with different bases is solved in few time frame.
